AEL - Slide 1
An acute erythroid leukaemia (AEL) in the presence of myeloblasts (23%) and a clear left shifted erythropoiesis. A difficult specimen with dysplasia, making it difficult to distinguish atypical erythroblasts from plasma cells. Additional examination did not reveal an increased or abnormal lymphocyte population. Also no monoclonal protein was detected. There was, however, an increased concentration of immunoglobulins due to another underlying disorder, which explains the slight rouleaux formation.
