Slide of a patient with a HbE/beta-thalassemia, secondary hemochromatosis and extramedullary hematopoiesis. Due to the hemoglobin defect and the resulting production of erythrocytes outside the bone marrow, a spectrum of shape abnormalities is seen; schistocytes, teardrop cells, microcytic and macrocytic cells, basophilic stippling and hypochromic erythrocytes.
