Although bacterial infections/sepsis are particularly associated with hypergranulation, hypogranulation can also occur during infection. This may be due to activation, where granules are consumed, but also due to abnormal myelopoiesis. This form of dysgranulopoiesis can be clearly seen in this slide, which showed considerable leukocytosis
