Slide of a patient with a hereditary pyropoikilocytosis and splenectomy. Due to the membrane defect, bizarrely shaped erythrocytes can be seen. In this slide, among others, schistocytes, megalocytic erythrocytes and elliptocytes can be seen.
The hemoglobin of this patient was

with an MCV of 61 fL
and an RDW of 33%
