Vacuoles
Vacuoles are colorless bladder-shaped recesses in the cytoplasm or nucleus of the cell and contain accumulated material (waste). Vacuoles are a sign of increased metabolic or phagocytic activity. Vacuoles can also form as artifacts in old material from contact with EDTA.
Vacuoles are common in monocytes; some monocytes with vacuoles can usually be found in healthy individuals as well.
