Basophilic granulation
Eosinophils with large purple- to violet-colored metachromatic granules similar to those of basophils are considered dysplastic. These aberrant eosinophils are often referred to as "Harlequin cells" and are most commonly seen in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with inv(16)(p13.1q22) or t(16;16)(p13.1;q22), as well as in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
