Pseudo-Agglutination
Synonyms: Rouleaux formation
Pseudo agglutination is the name for the phenomenon in which erythrocytes lie flat-sided against each other. Contrary to true agglutination, the individual cells are still easily distinguishable. These clusters occur because an excess of protein in the plasma reduces the mutual repulsion of the erythrocytes. This is actually what happens during measurement of the sedimentation rate.
