Transitional epithelium
Synonyms: Transitional epithelium, epithelium transitional, urothelial cells
Transitional epithelial cells line the urinary tract from the renal pelvis to the urethra in men and to the mouth of the bladder in women (trigone). These cells are generally round or oval in shape. Single cells may occur in normal urine, while larger amounts are associated with infections or catheter use.
